SHAARC is an
interactive software package for
computing acoustic impedance from seismic and well log data utilising a
three-stage inversion process.
Acoustic
impedance is used to produce more accurate and detailed structural and
stratigraphic interpretations than can be obtained from seismic (or seismic
attribute) interpretation. In many geological environments acoustic
impedance has a strong relationship to petrophysical properties such as
porosity, lithology, and fluid saturation.
The three stages of the
inversion process are:
Stage 1. Well Log Acoustic
Impedance Interpolation
A well log impedance model is
created using the available well logs containing impedance data and several
interpreted (digitized)
seismic horizons. The resulting well log acoustic impedance is used to
provide the low frequency component for the second stage of the inversion
process.
Stage 2. Low Frequency
Compensated Acoustic Impedance
A series of wavelets are
extracted from the seismic and log data one of which is chosen to de-phase
the seismic reflectivity data.
The well log acoustic impedance
model is then integrated with the seismic reflectivity in the frequency
domain to produce the low frequency compensated acoustic impedance volume
which is utilized in the third stage.
Stage 3. Constrained Sparse
Spike Acoustic Impedance
A reflectivity dataset is
generated from the low frequency compensated acoustic impedance. This
reflectivity along with the horizon constraints is optimized using the
constrained sparse spike inversion method and is used to compute the final
sparse spike acoustic impedance.
